Training 500+ Community Health Workers
Training and capacity building are at the heart of ONA's approach. We believe that empowering frontline health workers with the right skills and tools is essential for expanding access to eye health screening in underserved communities.
Comprehensive Training Programs
ONA's training program covers both the technical aspects of using the mobile screening platform and the clinical knowledge needed to conduct effective screenings. Health workers learn how to use the app, conduct basic eye assessments, interpret screening results, and guide referrals.
Training is designed to be practical and participatory, with hands-on practice and case scenarios. We work closely with experienced ophthalmologists and community health experts to ensure the training is relevant and effective.
Reaching 500+ Health Workers
Since launching our pilot programs, we have trained over 500 community health workers across multiple regions of the DRC. These health workers are now using ONA to screen individuals in their communities, identify those at risk of vision problems, and facilitate timely referrals.
- Hands-on training with the mobile platform
- Basic eye health and screening protocols
- Referral pathways and follow-up procedures
- Data collection and reporting
- Ethical considerations and patient communication
Impact on Health Workers
Health workers report that the training has equipped them with valuable new skills and increased their confidence in conducting eye health screenings. Many express enthusiasm about being able to offer this service to their communities.
The training was clear and practical. I feel confident using ONA to screen patients and refer them for further care. It's rewarding to know I can help prevent vision loss in my community.
Ongoing Support
Training is just the beginning. ONA provides ongoing support to health workers through follow-up visits, refresher training, and technical assistance. We are committed to ensuring health workers have the resources they need to succeed.
